Can you believe it? Are we entering Middle Ages?

Bush administration plans to grant sweeping new protections to health care providers who oppose abortion on religious grounds. What????

Even Bush appointed legal counsel of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the proposal would overturn 40 years of civil rights law prohibiting job discrimination based on religion.

WTF?

Employees of the pharmacies will be able to refuse to fill prescriptions for contraceptives? Turn away Medicaid patients? Hospitals will not be required to offer emergency contraception to rape victims?

Last night I watched the show “Private Practice” on TV, and the abortion issue came up. One doctor could not allow abortion to be performed in her clinic because of her personal believes. Some of other employees of that clinic supported her and lectured a person that wanted the abortion.
At the end of the show, after many discussions and tears, the abortion was performed and it was decided that doctors should do their job and leave their personal believes to themselves..! It is difficult enough for a woman to make a decision to undergo the abortion and she does not need anyone lecturing because of her personal issues.

Amen, it is hard to comprehend that we are rejecting National Health Insurance because we don't want the government to interfere in our lives, but it is OK for a pharmacist or a nurse to tell us how many children to have? Our founding fathers may have been on to something when they have insisted on the separation of the church and state. If you want to impose your personal believes on someone, why not become a priest, a rabbi or a mullah? They get to do it for a living! It is certainly not a job of healthcare professional.
